Adopt A Creek

Adopt a Creek volunteers sign up for a one-year volunteering commitment and must complete at least one creek clean-up during their adoption year.

Typically, big clean-up days are scheduled to coincide with Dublin Pride Week in April, Livermore Community Service Day in May, and Creeks to Bay Day in September. However, adopters can schedule as many creek clean-ups as they would like throughout the year.

Many of our adopters go above and beyond creek clean-ups and work on other projects designed to enhance their creek. These projects have included graffiti removal, marking storm drains, planting California natives, weeding invasive plants, creating educational installations, and helping with special events.

How big of a group do I need to adopt a creek?

Tri-Valley creeks have been adopted by individuals, families, non-profits, community organizations, and local businesses. The Adopt a Creek program has spots available for groups of all sizes and our Program Coordinator will work with you to find the best creek spot for your group.

Can I pick the creek spot that I adopt?

Creek sections are added to the program based on how physically accessible they are to volunteers and the amount of litter that has been found in the area. If you are interested in a creek section that is listed as “Available for Adoption” on the Explore Our Creeks page, include this information in the additional comments section on the form below.

Do I need to have my own clean-up supplies?

The Adopt a Creek program will provide all the supplies you will need for creek clean-ups and any other creek enhancement projects. This includes gloves, trash grabbers, and dumpsters. The program will also provide technical assistance and training, so your group does not need prior creek clean-up experience to adopt a creek.

What if I cannot commit to adopting a creek, but I would like to volunteer occasionally?

There are many other ways that you can get involved and help improve streams in the Tri-Valley. The Living Arroyos program hosts weekend one-off volunteer opportunities from October to April each year. Visit the Events page to sign up for upcoming volunteer days.
